Aussie young gun signs long-term deal with champions & he’s been tipped to play for Socceroos

Melbourne City sensation Max Caputo has signed a contract extension with the Isuzu UTE A-League champions.

The 19-year-old academy graduate has penned a new three-year deal until the end of the 2027-28 season.

Caputo overcame a serious leg injury that sidelined him until February as the talented forward helped City conquer rivals Melbourne Victory in an historic Grand Final.

He ended the season as the club’s joint-Golden Boot winner with six goals in all competitions.

“Melbourne City has been my home for a long time, so I’m really excited to have signed on for another three years,” Caputo said.

“The club has supported me massively on and off the pitch, especially during my recovery.

“To play in a winning Grand Final in front of the City fans was a moment I’ll never forget and I’m looking forward to continuing to play a part in the team’s success in the years to come.”

City’s director of football Michael Petrillo added: “Max is a bright talent who has all the tools to have a great career not just at Melbourne City, but potentially for the national team and overseas in the years ahead.

“His work ethic and professionalism throughout his rehab were outstanding, and with a full pre-season under his belt, we’re confident he’ll take another big step forward next season.”

Meanwhile, City have also farewelled academy graduates Harry Politidis and Arion Sulemani.

Politidis departs at the conclusion of his contract, having made 39 appearances since his debut in September 2023.

The 22-year-old played 23 games in all competitions in 2024-25, scoring three goals.

As for Sulemani, he leaves City by mutual agreement to pursue other opportunities.

The young forward made nine senior appearances during his time at City, including four starts.
