A cracking comeback, a super-sub display from spurned Simon and Roar’s rise rolls on: Round 4 was completed last night (Mon) and this is what we learnt.
The Jets: shambles to champagne football
Can you believe what’s happening in the Hunter right now? Shambolic to champagne football in the space of a few months, and on Friday night this new steel was on show in a remarkable 3-2 comeback win. Down by two at half-time against a cruising City, Mr Miller had some stern words and a clear plan. It worked. The Jets have now won three out of their opening four games (only loss was to Sydney FC, see below). What a story this is turning out to be.

Sydney FC = the team no-one wants to meet
Victory may be the most fluent attacking team in the league – evidenced by Monday night’s cruise past Phoenix – but Sydney FC have become a highly efficient, effective machine this season. They score late, are super-fit and the team are incredibly well-oiled even this early in the season as the league leaders made it four games unbeaten with a 3-1 win in Gosford.

Borrello and Maclaren: A-League’s new dynamic duo
We’ve had the Killer Bs at Sydney FC, now the front two pairing of Brandon Borrello and Jamie Maclaren are gaining cult status in Brisbane after their partnership (with the aid of the indefatigable Matt McKay) helped smash the Reds. The pairing, which needs its own nickname now, has been an inspired choice by coach JA. Oh, and the two forwards are Aussies. Which is great news for the Olyroos as they aim to qualify for next year’s Olympics in Rio.

Gung-ho Mariners are fab entertainment
Ok, let’s be honest. The Mariners may not win the grand final this season, but you can’t fault their commitment to giving Central Coast fans a show. Tony Walmsley’s men are fabulous to watch. And despite being down to 10 men against Sydney FC, they never stopped looking to be attack-minded and positive in their 3-1 loss
