Melbourne City might boast back-to-back championships but they still have a major box to tick on Friday night: derby superiority over Melbourne Victory.
Honours were shared between the cross-town rivals in two meetings last season, meaning there is plenty at stake at AAMI Park on Friday night.
And as if they needed any more motivation, the champions were humbled 4-1 in Perth in the opening round.

The two-time champions put a frustrating 2016/17 campaign behind them by upsetting Sydney FC in an encouraging first-up win at Allianz Stadium.
Allira Toby shone alongside a host of Westfield Matildas as Mel Andreatta’s side teed up a top-of-the-table battle with a Sam Kerr-inspired Perth Glory, who gained sweet revenge on Melbourne City in the Grand Final rematch.

NEW-LOOK ADELAIDE
Adelaide United are the competition’s unknowns coming into Round 2 as they look to unleash away to Western Sydney Wanderers in the second of Friday’s two matches.
After a bye last week, new coach Ivan Karlovic takes charge for the first time at Marconi Stadium as he attempts to guide the Lady Reds to a Finals Series appearance.
Those hopes are supported by a quartet of American stars, with new signings Alyssa Mautz and Makenzy Doniak joining returning pair Katie Naughton and Danielle Colaprico.
Wanderers will be aiming to make amends for their first-up defeat in Newcastle and exact revenge for the 10-2 defeat they were dealt by Adelaide in January.
DE VANNA’S BACK
With a 2-1 win against Western Sydney already in the bank, Newcastle Jets can cement their place as a force to be feared when Sydney FC head to McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday.
Craig Deans will know the importance of making it two from two in the Hunter given the Jets only play twice more at home over the next seven rounds.
They won’t have it easy against the Sky Blues, who will be turbo-charged by a Lisa De Vanna debut in their bid to recover from a 3-1 loss against Brisbane Roar.
