4 reasons to get around the Westfield W-League Round 1!

The highly-anticipated Westfield W-League 2017/18 season is nearly here!

Here are your reasons to get around opening weekend of Season 10 in Australia’s elite domestic football league.

THE BIGGEST STARS

There’s no bigger star in the women’s game at the moment than Westfield Matildas striker Sam Kerr who returns to Perth Glory looking to continue her quite unbelievable 2017.

But there are plenty of other members of the Australian side ready to catch the eye in 2017/18, including Lisa De Vanna, Clare Polkinghorne, Kyah Simon and recent NWSL winner Hayley Raso.

Everywhere you look, the best Australian female football talent will be on offer!

EXCITING FRESH FACES

A new wave of young stars are ready to make their names and push for silverware and higher honours.

Westfield Matildas veteran Lisa de Vanna recently touted 15-year-old Kyra Cooney-Cross as “the next Sammy Kerr”.

There are also huge wraps on the likes of Remy Siemsen, Princess Ibini, Cortnee Vine, Melina Ayres and star of the future, Jacinta Galabadaarachchi.

The Westfield W-League is certainly the place to get the first glimpse of the players who will represent Australia in the years ahead.

And for the young generation already making waves, new Canberra signing Ellie Carpenter and Adelaide’s Alex Chidiac already have senior international caps to their names and are incredibly exciting to watch.

GRAND FINAL REMATCH

A feature of opening weekend is a Grand Final rematch with Perth Glory hosting Melbourne City at nib Stadium.

Nine months ago at the same venue, City upset the home side 2-0 with Jess Fishlock and Beverly Yanez on the scoresheet.

Glory don’t have to wait long to get their chance for revenge.

RAISING THE CURTAIN

It’s double the Friday night football!

The new season’s opening match also serves as a curtain-raiser to a Hyundai A-League match.

Following Sydney FC’s clash with Brisbane Roar to open their campaigns at Allianz Stadium, fans can stay on to watch the reigning Hyundai A-League champions in action against Perth Glory.

What a start to the biggest season yet in the Westfield W-League. See you there…
