It’s a Split Round in the Hyundai A-League, meaning there’s only two games from Round 20 plus a rescheduled fixture between the Wanderers and Phoenix to look forward to this weekend.
But there’s still plenty of big names returning across the three matches to help boost their side’s chances of claiming all three points.
We’ve picked out four stars who are back in action this week who’ll be looking to make an impact for their respective squads.
Jade North (Roar)
Brisbane’s finals hopes are hanging by a thread, meaning this week’s trip to Melbourne to face a wounded Melbourne Victory is vitally important.
Coming up against the likes of Berisha, George and Barbarouses, Roar’s defence will need to be at the top of their game and the experience of North will be crucial.
John Aloisi’s side look a much tougher proposition with the former Caltex Socceroos defender in their XI.
Brandon O’Neill (Sydney FC)
It’s not often you can make a change to a team that won 4-0 the week before that actually strengthens the side.
But that’s the case for the Sky Blues, with O’Neill likely to come straight back into the midfield for the clash against City after a one week suspension.
Alongside Josh Brillante, the duo are the engine-room for the champions and they’ll need to be at their best in what should be a massive midfield battle against Brattan and Malik at AAMI Park.
Chris Herd (Wanderers)
Josep Gombau’s side have a great opportunity to pull away from the chasing pack in sixth spot as they host Wellington in a rescheduled match from round 7.
And the return of Herd comes at the perfect time to add some steel to the Wanderers’ midfield.
The ex-Aston Villa man is not only excellent at breaking up opposition attacks but can also get his own team on the front foot with his excellent range of passing.
Andrija Kaludjerovic (Phoenix)
In a season of ups-and-downs for the Phoenix, the Serbian striker has been a shining light.
If it wasn’t for his goals – he has eight for the campaign so far – Wellington’s finals hopes could be over already.
But if he can resume where he left off before his injury, Kaludjerovic could prove the difference at ANZ Stadium on Sunday night.
