Football Federation Australia is proud to announce the inaugural winner of the Hyundai A-League Fan Group of the Year award – Adelaide United.

Following a season that saw them rise from the ashes of a disastrous Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season to a top three finish this season Reds fans have not deserted their team throughout their six season journey to date.

With a crowd average nudging 11,000 this season the Red Army was seen as the most loyal and passionate supporters in the Hyundai A-League.

Voted by a panel of football commentators and writers votes were cast based on key criteria including loyalty, creativity, passion and inclusivity.

Hyundai A-League Fan Group of the Year award recognises the best fan group in the Hyundai A-League and for their passionate support the Red Army will receive a billboard in their city featuring Adelaide-s superb fan culture.

FFA CEO Ben Buckley congratulated the Red Army for an outstanding year of team support.

“Fans are the lifeblood of the Hyundai A-League and we launched this award at the start of this year to celebrate the amazing contribution they make to the spectacle that is our competition,” Mr Buckley said.

“Adelaide United supporters have been fantastic and their passion and dedication set the bench mark this year in active support.

“I would like to congratulate the Adelaide United fans for winning the award and thank the fans of all of the Hyundai A-League clubs for their dedicated, colourful and passionate support.

“We have the best fans of any sport in the country and the way they express themselves makes football standout.

“This award is our opportunity to celebrate that passion.”

Wellington Phoenix and Brisbane Roar both fared well in the final results and Brisbane fans will get their last opportunity for the season to support their team and show why they rated so highly in the voting.

With less than 1,000 tickets left on sale for the Hyundai A-League 2011 Grand Final those fans and the people of Brisbane are quickly running out of time for their chance to witness history at Suncorp Stadium on March 13.
