Inside Mariners wild title celebrations, led by Jason Cummings
Jason Cummings is the gift that keeps on giving, even after his Grand Final heroics for Central Coast Mariners.
Post-match at CommBank Stadium, the Joe Marston Medallist was asked what his celebrations would look like.
“Have you seen the fella on Project X? Just like that, mate,” he told reporters after breaking Daniel McBreen’s record for most goals scored by a Mariner in a season (20).
Cummings, who is reportedly set to leave the Mariners for Indian Super League champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant, did not disappoint.
He channelled his inner ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin amid Central Coast’s long and wild celebrations.
But that isn’t all.
Cummings has been out on a kayak and went head-to-head with a pair of goats, which can be seen in footage courtesy of Harry Steele’s Instagram!
Central Coast have been savouring their drought-ending Championship, and deservedly so.
Outside of Cummings teeing a golf ball off the backside of teammate Yaren Sozer, Central Coast have paid tribute to their psychologist Ezio Mormile by dressing up as him!
Mormile has worn the same shirt to Mariners matches throughout the finals series.
Meanwhile, Mariners star Sammy Silvera also celebrated with his grandmother the day after Central Coast completed their fairy-tale season.
No excuses for deflated City
Melbourne City were full of confidence heading into their fourth consecutive Grand Final, however, the Mariners had other ideas.
For the third time in four seasons, City fell at the final hurdle but this one was different.
Scott Jamieson, who announced his retirement prior to the decider, did not come off the bench for a final farewell but the clearly deflated veteran had nothing but credit for Central Coast.
“Firstly congratulations to the Central Coast Mariners,” Jamieson told KEEPUP. “They were fantastic on the night and a fully deserved A-League champions of this season.
“This final is all about who’s better on the night and they were better on the night, and we take nothing away from them.
“We’ll do our own I guess, breakdown of what went wrong. But like I said I want to reiterate that full credit to the Mariners.
Jamieson added: “I’ll take my time and let this burn deep and hurt. But later in the piece of a few weeks and I’m sure I’ll sit back with close people and really reflect.”
