Goodwin caps stellar A-Leagues season with FIFA recognition

If winning the Isuzu UTE A-League’s Johnny Warren Medal was not enough, Craig Goodwin’s brilliant individual season has seen the Adelaide United captain included in FIFA’s Rest of World Team of the Season.

Goodwin was a standout for Adelaide and the Socceroos in 2022-23 as the Reds reached the A-Leagues Semi Final and Australia advanced to the 2022 FIFA Men’s World Cup last 16.

That is why the 31-year-old star took home the Johnny Warren Medal earlier this month, having scored 15 goals and supplied 10 assists.

After being recognised by the A-Leagues, Goodwin has also been named in FIFA 23’s Rest of the World Team of the Season with a rating of 92 – a figure only bettered by three other players on the list.

The ROTW team includes Celtic star Jota (95), who flourished for Ange Postecoglou’s champions in the Scottish Premiership, Wuhan Three Towns’ Davidson Da Luz Pereira (94) from the Chinese Super League and Amahl Pellegrino (93) of Bodo/Glimt in Norway.

He is the only Australian included in either the Ultimate Team of the Season – headlined by Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe – or the Rest of the World.
