Sydney FC young gun seals loan move to The Netherlands

Young gun Adrian Segecic will join second tier Dutch side FC Dordrecht on loan for the rest of the 2023-24 season from Sydney FC.

Segecic joins the club after making 28 appearances and scoring three goals in all competitions for the Sky Blues since debuting in 2021.

The 19-year-old said he’s excited for the new challenge at the Eerste Divisie side, who have former Sky Blues fan favourite Pascal Bosschart as their assistant coach.

“This is a great chance to improve and develop my ability in a different country, against different players and to continue my education in a different culture and new settings,” he said.

“Dutch football is amongst the most progressive and forward thinking in the world and I’m sure I will return a better player and person from the experience.”

The attacking midfielder showed plenty of promise in the 2022-23 campaign with the Sky Blues, scoring three goals and tallying three assists in 19 games in all competitions. His performances in the 2022 Australia Cup particularly caught the eye, where he had a goal contribution in each of his three appearances.

Coach Steve Corica believes the move will benefit the Young Socceroo – who signed a three year extension with the club at the start of last season – and the Sky Blues in the long run.

“A year in Holland, learning to play in a different environment and in a new league will be a fantastic experience for Adrian, which can only be good for him and for Sydney FC,” Corica said.

“I’m certain he will return a better player having the chance of consistent first team football and it is something we will reap the rewards from next season.”

FC Dordrecht currently sit 18th in the Eerste Divisie after three games.
