“I am just so excited, I can’t wait to watch the game this weekend,” State Member for Tarneit, Sarah Connolly MP said.
“This is a momentous occasion for the Western United Football Club, but also such an exciting time for the western suburbs of Melbourne.
“I know there will be thousands of families and fans out there watching our guys bring the trophy home this weekend.”
John Aloisi’s Western are featuring in a first Grand Final in just their third season of existence.
Premiers City are looking to become the first team in A-League Men history to win the Premiership-Championship double in consecutive seasons.
“The whole of the south-east is getting behind this, this is a terrific outcome for our community,” State Member for Cranbourne Pauline Richards MP said.
“I can’t tell you how excited everyone at Casey Fields, in my seat of Cranbourne and also right across the south-east is about what is happening on Saturday night.
“We’ve got MPs here from Pakenham, Frankston, Carrum, Dandenong, Noble Park, Mordialloc – right across the region – who are just so excited. I’m imploring everyone to get around it.”
Western could become the first team since Brisbane Roar in 2011 to hoist the Championship aloft in their maiden Grand Final appearance.
“The West has arrived, it’s here and it’s here to stay in the A-League. The Green and Black family has only just begun, and it will continue to grow and spread across the West of Victoria,” said Western chairman Jason Sourasis said.
“Members of the West, get ready. Rally in support of your community, your people. Western United vs Melbourne City, West vs South-East – a battle for the ages. Be West and be proud.”
City CEO Brad Rowse added: “The support we’ve received from MPs in the south-east – State and Federal, from both sides of politics – has been phenomenal.
“I’m rapt there is such an excitement ahead of the grand final and thank them for all their support and well wishes.”
