Adelaide United’s A-League Men campaign has suffered a massive blow with striker Kusini Yengi sidelined for at least three months after quad surgery.
Yengi was injured in training on December 16, the day before of Adelaide’s 1-0 loss to Western United and the Reds confirmed on Sunday he had surgery to “repair” his right quad.
The 22-year-old had been Adelaide’s first-choice striker this season, following Tomi Juric’s off-season departure, scoring one goal in four starts.
The Reds have scored just four goals so far this season and are winless after five games.
Coach Carl Veart flagged after the loss to Western United if Yengi’s injury kept him out for a prolonged period, the Reds would aim to replace him in the January transfer window.
“We’ll have to maybe have a look in the January transfer window to look to bring in a striker because that’s what we’re lacking at the moment. We need someone who can score goals,” Veart said.
“The club will have to have a good look to see if we can find a striker.”
