With the 2026/27 A-League Men season fast approaching plenty of sides were in action over the weekend as the prepare for Matchweek 1.
Western Sydney Wanderers hosting Central Coast Mariners at Wanderers Park whilst Adelaide United headed west to take on Perth Glory.
Meanwhile Melbourne City faced local NPL VIC side Oakleigh Cannons at Jack Edwards Reserve.

Western Sydney Wanderers 5-1 Central Coast Mariners
The Wanderers hosted A-Leagues rivals the Mariners on Saturday afternoon in sweltering conditions in Western Sydney as the club hosted their annual Members Season launch.
With a drinks break scheduled in due to the heat in Western Sydney the Wanderers took the lead after play resumed midway through the first half through defender Alex Gersbach, with the Wanderers’ high press causing the Mariners plenty of problems.
Off-season signing Miguel Di Pizio made it 2-0 as he rounded off a nice team move to score against his old side before central midfielder Angus Thurgate made it 3-0 before the first half was out.
Looking to make an impact this season after putting pen-to-paper on a new contact, winger Aydan Hammond put the Mariners to the sword shortly after half-time as he found the far corner to make it 4-0.
The home side then continued to pile on the pressure and make it 5-0 as exciting young talent Awan Lual got himself on the scoresheet before the Mariners eventually pulled one back through attacker Ali Auglah, who scored direct from a free-kick.

It proved to be only a consolation, with the Wanderers closing out another commanding pre-season performance.
The result continues an encouraging run of form for the Red & Black, following recent victories over Wellington Phoenix and Auckland FC, as preparations continue ahead of the 2026/27 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
Perth Glory 2-0 Adelaide United
Perth Glory and Adelaide United headed to Bunbury as part of their respective pre-season presentations and it was the home side who came out on top.
More than a thousand fans made the trip to the regional venue and they saw their side eventually take the lead in the second half after a promising first half display.
Almost immediately after the restart the home crowd got to see their side find the back of the net as young forward Sebastian Despotovski converted from close range to break the deadlock after seeing his initial shot saved by Adelaide keeper Joshua Smits.
The home crowd were then treated to another goal inside the first eight minutes of the second half as off-season recruit Lucas Scicluna scored his first goal since joining the club from the Newcastle Jets.
Having played a role in the first goal, captain for the day Stefan Colakovski then provided the second as he played the ball into the path of Scicluna who swept home into the far corner to make it 2-0.
Perth could well have ended the day with more goals to their name in what was a dominant display whilst the Reds tested goalkeeper Daniel Solsky late on with a rare effort, however the keeper thwarted Spanish creator Juan Muniz.
The two sides will meet again on Sunday.

Oakleigh Cannons 0-2 Melbourne City
New Melbourne City recruits Matheus Rossetto, Emiliano Marcondes and Awer Mabil were named in the starting line-up as City travelled to Jack Edwards Reserve to face local NPL side Oakleigh Cannons.
City started brightly and Socceroo Mabil was heavily involved in the opening exchanges, seeing an effort blocked inside the opening quarter of an hour.
Vidmar’s side continued to pile on the pressure and the breakthrough came midwauy through the first half as Andrew Nabbout was in the right place at the right time to convert from close range to make it 1-0 after Oakleigh had blocked City’s initial effort.

Named to start the game, City goalkeeper James Nieuwenhuizen prevented the home side from equalising almost immediately, producing a smart save to ensure it remained 1-0.
City were the side in control and went into the break with a slender one goal lead at which point Vidmar replaced left-back Peter Antoniou with Mathew Baker, who made an immediate impact.
Collecting the ball from an initial set-piece, Baker fired a dangerous ball back into the area where it found defender Liam Bonetig, who guided the ball beyond the keeper to make it 2-0.
The A-Leagues side almost made it three through defender Harrison Delbridge with Socceroo Mabil creating plenty of dangerous opportunities for his teammates before Vidmar made further changes in a bid to get more minutes into the legs of his side.
2-0 is how it finished at Jack Edwards Reserve.
