Towering defender signs two-year deal as Glory get their man

Perth Glory have strengthened their defensive stocks ahead of the 2026-27 Isuzu UTE A-League season, securing experienced centre-back Lachlan Jackson on a two-year deal.

The 31-year-old arrives in Perth after a season-and-a-half with Melbourne Victory, where he made 22 appearances in all competitions.

The towering central defender will add depth to a Glory defence that already contains two of the competitions best defenders in Brian Kaltak and Scott Wootton and brings a wealth of experience with him.

Lachlan Jackson of the Victory celebrates with fans

Debuting in the A-Leagues for Brisbane Roar in 2014, Jackson chalked up plenty of games for Newcastle Jets before then jetting off to South Korea where he played for Suwon FC, playing more than 90 matches in all competitions.

The Townsville-born defender said conversations with Football Director Stan Lazaridis and Head Coach Adam Griffiths convinced him Perth was the right destination for the next stage of his career.

“From the moment Stan and Griff spoke to me, it felt like the right decision,” said Jackson, who departed Melbourne Victory at the end of the 2025-26 season.

“I’m 100% behind Griff’s approach and where he’s taking this team.

“I’m excited to get amongst the fans and be part of a squad with real quality and ambition.

He concluded: “I’m looking forward to playing for a club that values what I can bring and I will give my all.”

With Jackson putting pen-to-paper on a deal until the end of the 2027-28 Isuzu UTE A-League season, Lazaridis believes the defender’s experience and profile make him an ideal addition to the glory squad.

“Lachie is an experienced and physical defender who knows the A-League extremely well,” said Lazaridis.

“We’d been searching for a left-sided centre back to add depth to our defence and he’d been on our radar for some time.

“Lachie’s a great character with a strong determination to succeed and is a great fit with the style of football Adam Griffiths is looking to play.

“We’re delighted to have secured his services for the next two seasons.”

Perth Glory have arguably been the busiest of any Isuzu UTE A-League club so far, with Jackson becoming their fifth off-season signing after Matthew Dench, Lucas Scicluna, Calem Nieuwenhof (loan) and Henry Hore all signed on.

Furthermore, the club has also tied several of their first team stars down to new contracts including club captain Adam Taggart and star English import Tom Lawrence.
