Newcastle Jets have added another forward to their ranks, signing former Sydney FC striker Patrick Wood on a deal until the end of the 2027-28 season.
An academy graduate at Sydney FC, Wood recently departed the Sky Blues in search of a new challenge and brings with him a wealth of A-Leagues experience.
Featuring in 119 matches for Sydney FC, Wood also had a six-month spell on loan at fellow Isuzu UTE A-League side Perth Glory.

Furthermore, the 23-year-old played a pivotal role in helping Sydney FC capture the 2023 Australia Cup title, scoring four goals in five games during the successful cup run.
“I’m incredibly excited to have signed with the Newcastle Jets,” said Wood, after putting pen-to-paper on a two-year deal.
“This is a massive opportunity for me, and I’m proud to be joining such a respected club with a strong history and passionate supporters.
He added: “I’m a hungry striker with huge ambitions both with the team and on a personal level. To join up with Max (Burgess) once again is something I’m really looking forward to. See you all soon!”

Whilst his goalscoring record doesn’t necessarily catch the eye, Wood’s off-the-ball work is something that will no doubt have impressed Newcastle Jets boss Mark Milligan.
“We are really excited to get Patrick on board,” said Milligan, after the deal was made official.
“He is a hard-working player that can play across the forward line, and he has experience in the league and in the Asian Champions League.Â
He concluded: “Patrick is a fantastic addition to the squad.”Â
Wood’s final goal for Sydney FC came in the 2025-26 Final Series where he scored the only goal of the game to help the Sky Blues defeat old foes Melbourne Victory 1-0 in the Elimination Final.
