Sydney FC have confirmed club legend and fan favourite Mackenzie Hawkesby will leave the club after seven seasons in Sky Blue.
Hawkesby departs as one of the clubs greatest ever players and sits fourth on the all time list of appearance makers for Sydney FC’s women’s side.
One of Sydney’s most decorated players, the 26-year old leaves having won three Ninja A-League Premierships and two championships as well as a plethora of individual and team awards.

“I have given my absolute all to this club and I have created so many incredible memories and friendships along the way,” said Hawkesby, after her departure was confirmed.
“What we achieved together as players is something I’ll always be proud of.
“Thank you to the fans for your unwavering support and love shown towards me and the girls these past 8 years, we couldn’t have done it without you.”
The midfielder won four major trophies during her first stint as a Sydney FC player before securing a move to English WSL side Brighton and Hove Albion.

Hawkesby then returned to the Harbour City in 2024 and had an immediate impact, helping the Sky Blues clinch the 2023-24 Ninja A-League Championship under former head coach Ante Juric.

Sydney FC A-League Women’s Head Coach James Slaveski paid tribute to Hawkesby’s remarkable contribution to the club.
“Mackenzie is one of the most decorated footballers to ever represent Sydney FC and her legacy at this club is firmly secured,” he said.
“On behalf of everyone at the club, I’d like to thank Mackenzie for her outstanding service and wish her every success in the next stage of her career.”
In total, Hawkesby played 114 games for Sydney FC, scoring 28 goals and will no doubt be remembered as one of the best to have pulled on a Sky Blue shirt.
