Newcastle Jets have confirmed exciting young talent Alex Nunes has re-signed with the club until the end of the 2027-28 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
Nunes has been with the Jets since the age of nine, progressing through the academy ranks before being rewarded with a scholarship deal ahead of the 2024-25 season, aged just 17.
The attacking midfielder made his professional debut against Western United in the 2024 Australia Cup qualifying round, before scoring his first goal in the 2025 Australia Cup semi-finals against Avondale.

Now 19, Nunes has made 13 appearances for the first team across the last two seasons, contributing to winning the 2025 Australia Cup and 2025-26 Isuzu UTE A-League Premiership under Mark Milligan.
He has also recently received his first call-up to the Young Socceroos, scoring on debut against the Philippines.
“I’m incredibly proud to re-sign with the club I’ve called home since I was nine years old,” said Nunes.
“I’m grateful for the trust and support Mark and the coaching staff have shown in me, and I’m excited to continue representing this great club.”
Having captured both the Australia Cup and the Premiers Plate during his first season in charge Newcastle boss Milligan is now tasked with rebuilding his side following several high profile exits.

“Alex has worked extremely hard this year, and we have seen huge improvements in him,” said Milligan, after the deal was announced.
“We are proud to be a part of his development and look forward to what he brings this year.
“The fans should be excited to see more of Alex this season as he has a flair and natural ability to bring the game to life.”
