Wellington Phoenix have confirmed midfielder Sarpreet Singh will be sidelined for up to eight weeks after suffering a knee injury.
Singh was forced from the field during Wellington’s Round 17 draw with the Wanderers after succumbing to the injury with scans now confirming the extent of the damage.

The 26-year-old, who was making his first appearance after returning to the club on loan in the January transfer window, will now be out for the vast majority of what’s left of the Phoenix’s season after injuring his Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL).
Singh will also now miss New Zealand’s upcoming March international friendlies against Finland and Chile at Eden Park as well Wellington’s next five Isuzu UTE A-League fixtures.

Phoenix boss Giancarlo Italiano was then dealt a second injury blow ahead of this weekend’s sixth New Zealand derby with confirmation All Whites star Tim Payne has injured his hamstring.
The club are yet to put an exact time frame on Payne’s return however he has already been ruled out of this weekend’s clash against fierce rivals Auckland FC at Sky Stadium and will continued to be monitored.
Auckland FC have won all five New Zealand Derbies to date, with their most recent victory being a 3-1 win over the Nix at Go Media Stadium back in December.
