Jets seal transfer coup as A-Leagues gun returns to Australia on multi-year deal

The Newcastle Jets have added some serious creativity to their ranks after announcing the signing of English midfielder Zach Clough on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The 30-year-old returns to the Isuzu UTE A-League having spent last season playing for Malaysian Super League side Selangor FC.

Prior to his move to Malaysia, Clough was one of the most creative players in the A-Leagues during his time with Adelaide United where he chalked up 19 goals and 19 assists in 85 games.

“I’m delighted to be back here in Australia and with the Jets,” said Clough after putting pen-to-paper on his new deal.

“This move feels like the perfect fit for me at this time of my career. I want to keep improving and I feel like I have joined the right Club for that reason.”

Clough becomes the first player to join the Jets in the mid-season transfer window and adds some much needed depth to Mark Milligan’s squad following the season-ending knee injuries suffered by both Alex Badolato and Christian Bracco.

“Zach is a fantastic footballer who will bring quality and experience to the Club,” said Milligan after getting his man.

“He can play a number of roles and will bring leadership to this young group, leading by example both on and off the field.”

Now registered, Clough could make his Jets debut this weekend when Newcastle travel to CommBank Stadium to face the Western Sydney Wanderers.
