King of Coopers celebrates Socceroos recall in style as Reds pick winless Wanderers apart

Adelaide United captain Craig Goodwin scored his first Isuzu UTE A-League goal since his return to the club as the Reds beat Western Sydney Wanderers 2-0 at Coopers Stadium on Friday night.

Goodwin and Young Socceroos striker Luka Jovanovic both scored in a five-minute second-half blitz from the Reds as the Wanderers succumbed to their second loss of the season in Adelaide.

Jovanovic provided the assist for Goodwin’s sealing goal just minutes after breaking the deadlock as the Reds jumped up to third on the table, with a record of two wins and two defeats to begin the season.

Goodwin’s goalscoring night at Coopers Stadium came in the hours after his recall to the CommBank Socceroos squad for friendlies against Venezuela and Colombia in the United States this month.

Both teams had one big opportunity apiece to go ahead in the first half but neither chance was taken.

Bozhidar Kraev fluffed his lines for the Wanderers down one end, and down the other end Luka Jovanovic was thwarted in a one-on-one with Lawrence Thomas who sprawled in front of the Reds striker’s feet to keep the game goalless at the break.
