A-Leagues academy product earns move to Asian powerhouse

Melbourne Victory academy product Luka Didulica has joined J1 League juggernaut Urawa Red Diamonds after signing his first professional contract.

The 18-year-old defender has earned a move to the three-time AFC Champions League Elite winners after standing out for Victory’s senior academy side in the NPL.

Didulica also featured in the matchday squad for last season’s Isuzu UTE A-League Semi-Final tie against premiers Auckland FC.

“I am extremely proud and happy to sign my first professional contract with Urawa Reds,” he said.

“I am honoured to be a part of this traditional club, and I will do my best to contribute to further success and titles. I feel a strong bond with Urawa Reds. Go Urawa Reds!”

As the J.League player registration window has closed, Didulica will not be able to play in official matches for the 2025 season.

Urawa are eighth in Japan’s top flight after 34 rounds, and they have a history with Australian players having previously signed Andrew Nabbout and Matthew Spiranovic.

“We are very proud of having worked with Luka through the 2025 season and helping him take a step to one of the biggest clubs in Asia,” said Victory head coach Arthur Diles.

“It’s a testament to the work being done at Victory and at clubs all across Australia that we are now developing players that are being scouted and signed by clubs like Urawa.

“Luka is a fantastic player and a humble young man, so we have no doubt he will do well in Japan, and he leaves with our best wishes”.
