Sydney FC land Peru international in statement signing: ‘Fantastic for our club and the A-League’

Sydney FC have pulled off a coup, signing Peru international Piero Quispe on loan from Mexican giants Pumas UNAM.

Quispe will spend the Isuzu UTE A-League 2025-26 season on loan at Sydney, who have the option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder arrives from seven-time Mexican champions Pumas, having joined from Peruvian powerhouse Universitario de Deportes after an outstanding 2023 season.

Quispe – who will wear the number seven shirt – won the 2023 Peruvian Championship with Universitario and he was named the Peruvian Player Of The Year, as well as in the Team Of The Season.

At the peak of his powers, the 12-time Peru international also featured at the 2024 Copa America while he has also been involved in the nation’s 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup qualifying campaign.

“I am very proud to join Sydney FC, the most successful club in Australia,” said Quispe, who was teammates with former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas and ex-Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey at Pumas.

“My dream is to win more Championships and to make history here, just as I did in Peru.

“I will give everything for the badge, bring creativity and passion to the team, and make our supporters proud.

“I cannot wait to arrive and start this next chapter of my career in Australia.”

Sydney have one visa spot to fill before the start of the 2025-26 season.

Quispe is the Sky Blues’ sixth signing after Al Hassan ToureRhys YoulleyAkol AkonPaul Okon-Engstler and Marcel Tisserand.

The Harbour City outfit have also promoted Mathias Macallister and re-signed Gus HoefslootAlex GrantWataru Kamijo and Rhyan Grant (2025-26).
