Isuzu UTE A-League clubs’ path to glory revealed with Australia Cup R16 ties confirmed

The six remaining Isuzu UTE A-League clubs have all avoided one another after the Hahn Australia Round of 16 draw was completed on Wednesday night.

2024 Australia Cup winners Macarthur Bulls booked their spot in the Round of 16 on Tuesday night care of a 5-0 win over SD Raiders and they’ll be hoping their run continues in this year’s competition after being drawn against NPL South Australian side MetroStars.

Currently the runaway leaders in this year’s NPL SA competition, MetroStars sealed their spot in the Round of 16 care of a thumping 4-0 win over Canberra FC.

Going in search of a first ever Australia Cup triumph, Alen Stajcic’s Western Sydney Wanderers have been handed a mouthwatering draw against NPL Victoria heavyweights Heidelberg United after brushing aside Peninsula Power 3-0 in the Round of 32.

Elsewhere, it’ll be an all-Sydney affair in the Round of 16 at Sydney United Sports Centre after Isuzu UTE A-League giants Sydney FC were drawn away to 2022 cup finalists Sydney United 58.

The Sky Blues overcame fellow Isuzu UTE A-League side Western United 1-0 in the Round of 32 whilst Sydney United 58 edged Northern Tigers 1-0 to advance to the next round.

After defeating Adelaide United 2-1 in his first game in charge, new Newcastle boss Mark Milligan will now take his Jets side north to face NPL Northern NSW side Cooks Hill Utd.

Having beaten Wellington Phoenix in last year’s competition South Melbourne FC will be hoping to take another Kiwi scalp this year after they were handed a home draw against reigning Isuzu UTE A-League Premiers Auckland FC.

In their first ever Australia Cup match Steve Corica’s side breezed into the last 16 after defeating Gold Coast Knights 4-0 while South Melbourne progressed care of a 2-1 win over South Hobart.

Elsewhere, Wellington Phoenix’s dramatic penalty shootout win over Perth Glory has seen them now paired with the lowest ranked side left in the competition as they face NPL Victoria 3 side Nunawading City FC.

Having stunned Melbourne Victory 4-3 in the last round, NPL Western Australian side Olympic Kingsway will now travel to Queensland to take on Brisbane City, while NPL Vic side Avondale FC will host APIA Leichhardt after they knocked out reigning Isuzu UTE A-League champions Melbourne City 2-0 on Wednesday night.

The above fixtures will be played between August 9th-14th.
