AC Milan’s star-studded squad
New AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri is bringing a strong squad to Perth for Thursday’s friendly against Perth – however there’s one glaring omission from the Rossoneri travelling party: new recruit and Real Madrid icon Luka Modric.
The Croatian international has been granted extended leave after featuring for Real Marid at the FIFA Club World Cup and will not attend Milan’s Asia-Pacific tour.
Australian fans will be able to see the likes of Portuguese star Rafael Leao, who Modric named ‘the present and future of Milan’ in an interview this week, as well as France international goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
USA captain Christian Pulisic has also travelled, as well as former Chelsea duo Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Pre-game activities
There’s plenty for fans to enjoy in the days and hours building up to kick-off at HBF Park, as a star-studded AC Milan squad arrives in Western Australia.
On Wednesday, July 30, the Milan squad will take part in an open training session at HBF Park, where fans will be able to see their favourite players in the flesh.
Prior to kick-off on Thursday night, a portion of the HBF Park precinct will be turned into an Italian Village where fans can come to enjoy Italian food, music, football activations and more; the Italian Village will be open from 4.45 pm AWST and remain active throughout the game on Thursday evening.
A special occasion for Perth and Australian football fans
Glory head coach David Zdrilic is eager to keep his side’s focus on how Thursday’s friendly against AC Milan will benefit their pre-season preparations for the Isuzu UTE A-League 2025-26 season – but admits it’s hard to ignore the excitement of taking on the Rossoneri on home soil.
The WA club is no stranger to friendly fixtures against European sides, having hosted the likes of Manchester United, West Ham United and Chelsea in recent years.
AC Milan visited Perth just one year ago for a friendly against fellow Serie A side AS Roma at Optus Stadium but are back in WA, this time to take on the state’s only professional side at HBF Park.
It’s a quick turnaround for Perth after Sunday’s Hahn Australia Cup Round of 32 clash with Wellington Phoenix – but Zdrilic is eager for members of his squad, both young and old, to relish the opportunity to take on the might of AC Milan when Thursday night comes around.
“We’re focusing on the pre-season part of it,” Zdrilic said.
“It’s going to be an unbelievable match and occasion, and to play a quality team like that is great for our preparation.
“And obviously, for the people of Perth and Australia, to have big teams like AC Milan, and we’ve had many, many big teams come over the years to all the states, they’re always great occasions. That’ll be one part of it; the other part is focusing on us having a really good game against world-class opposition.
“It’s not just young players, it’s older players as well. You can go through your whole career and not have a chance to play against big teams. It’s just a great occasion, and whoever comes on, they’re going to relish it and enjoy it. For us, behind that is wanting to keep improving throughout the pre-season.”
