Sydney FC head coach Ufuk Talay said “there’s a few things happening in the background” as the Sky Blues look to bolster their squad in the January transfer market, while he addressed speculation regarding Patrick Wood.
After Wednesday’s 0-0 draw away to Wellington Phoenix, Talay was asked if Sydney were eyeing reinforcements after recruiting Brazilian superstar Douglas Costa, Patryk Klimala, Leo Sena and Anas Ouahim before the start of the season, while Alexandar Popovic signed a six-month loan deal.

“There’s a few things happening in the background,” Talay told reporters. “Whether they come to fruition or not, we will see.
“We want to enhance the squad definitely. Always add players where we feel we can add value to the team.
“That’s the thought process at the moment.”

In terms of departures, Sydney striker Wood has been linked with a loan move to A-Leagues rivals Perth Glory.
The 22-year-old has made nine appearances and scored one goal in the league this season, though he has only started once.
Asked about the rumours, Talay replied: “If you look across the whole of the A-League, generally those positions up front are always taken up by foreign players. It’s very hard for local players to get regular game time.
“If we’re able to send one of our younger players to get game time, it’s valuable for them and valuable for us, especially when they do come back after getting minutes into their legs.”
