Adelaide are now fourth in the standings – six points adrift of leaders Melbourne City, while Wellington are fifth having won three of their previous four games.

The visiting Phoenix had the first real chance of the game as Annalie Longo fluffed her lines with her shot bouncing wide of the post in the 15th minute, while Fiona Worts wasted an opportunity of her own two minutes later in her 50th appearance for Adelaide.

With half-time approaching in Adelaide, the Reds drew first blood in the 42nd minute – Condon’s free-kick from the flank sailed over Wellington goalkeeper Carolina Vilao and into the net, though the Phoenix shot-stopper felt she was fouled.

Adelaide doubled their lead two minutes later via Dawber, who finished expertly past Vilao.
