Former Adelaide United star Nestory Irankunda has revealed his ambition to secure a loan move away from parent club Bayern Munich as he seeks first-team action.
The 18-year-old Adelaide phenom joined the German giants after the 2023-24 Isuzu UTE A-League season; he’s since made 15 appearances for Bayern’s reserves side in the German Regionalliga, scoring four goals.
Last week, Irankunda was named on head coach Vincent Kompany’s bench for Bayern’s UEFA Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk but was an unused substitute in the 5-1 win.
Irankunda was at Coopers Stadium on Friday night for his former side’s Isuzu UTE A-League clash with Sydney FC, where he joined the Network 10 panel to discuss his time in Germany so far.

“It’s been good. I’m happy to be home, Bayern Munich has been amazing as well, but it’s always good to be back in Australia,” Irankunda told Network 10.
“It’s been unreal, it’s a good challenge. It’s a lot different to the A-League… their technique is unreal. But (the) language, speaking it is horrible. I can only speak English!
“My first session, I couldn’t believe it. It wasn’t really seeing Harry Kane, it was mostly seeing Vincent Kompany, the coach. He’s a legend and he’s been in the game for quite a while, so seeing him was unreal.
“And then obviously when you see Harry Kane, Leroy Sané and all these players, it’s even better because they’re such high-profile players and they’re very good. It’s always a dream to see players like this.”
Irankunda was then asked by Adelaide legend Bruce Djite about his hopes for the future, having not yet broken into the star-studded Bayern first team, and whether he had discussed a potential loan move with the club’s hierarchy.
“Of course I’ve spoken to them,” he said. “Obviously you want to be playing, you want to be playing at a top level, first league, first division and at a good club also.
“I’ve been in talks with the club and also the coaches about going on loan, because I feel like it will be better for me. I have to be playing, I can’t keep playing under-23’s every week. So I’m in talks with them, and hopefully I get a club soon.”
