Western Sydney Wanderers 5-1 Western United
Sienna Saveska scored a first-half hat-trick to inspire Western Sydney Wanderers to a shock 5-1 win over Western United at CommBank Stadium on Saturday afternoon – the Wanderers’ first victory of the season.
Saveska scored her three goals in a 17-minute blitz as the Wanderers raced out to an early lead; Cushla Rue made it 4-0 before half-time as the hosts cruised to a comfortable lead.
“The sort of half you dream about!” Said Network 10 commentator Teo Pellizzeri after Saveska sealed her hat-trick.
“A hat-trick by the 27-minute mark. Sienna Saveska having the game of her young life so far!
“This is trademark Sienna Saveska. If you’ve followed her in the NPL all the way up, you knew she had this in her locker and she’s uncorked it on a big stage here!
“Utter delight for the Western Sydney Wanderers.”

Western Sydney captain Amy Harrison missed a penalty in the second half and after failing to push their lead out to five goals, the Wanderers conceded a consolation goal to Western United with Chloe Logarzo showing no such inaccuracy from the spot to make it 4-1.
But there was one more goal to come from the Wanderers – and it was a truly special moment at CommBank Stadium, as veteran and club-record appearance holder Danika Matos scored the first goal of her Ninja A-League career.
The Wanderers came into Round 6 as the league’s bottom-placed side without a win on the board but Robbie Hooker’s side roared back into form in style, with the crushing 5-1 victory denying Western United the chance to draw level with league-leaders Melbourne City.
Sydney FC 1-2 Newcastle Jets
Sydney FC were stunned by Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night, with the travelling Jets coming from a goal down to win 2-1 despite collecting a red card in the first half.
Jets keeper Danielle Kryzaniak was sent off after just 12 minutes for a foul on Princess Ibini and when Sydney FC teenager Indiana Dos Santos put the hosts in front in the 22nd minute, the reigning champions looked set to cruise to a comfortable victory.
But the Jets had other ideas.
Trailing 1-0 up to the 86-minute mark, two late goals to Deven Jackson and Lauren Allan ensured Newcastle came away from Allianz Stadium with all three points in a major Ninja A-League upset.
Sydney FC have now lost two games on the bounce and are without a win in three games; Ante Juric’s side sit 10th on the table, whilst the Jets have soared up to sixth following the gutsy win on the road.
