Adelaide United are off to their best start to a season since 2014-15. Can they maintain that form against Perth Glory on Friday night?

The Reds have gone four matches unbeaten to begin 2024-25 thanks to their 3-2 triumph over Brisbane Roar in Unite Round, which left the club fourth in the standings and two points off top spot.

Standing in the way of Carl Veart’s Adelaide – who have a match in hand – are lowly Perth Glory, who have a point to prove. David Zdrilic’s Perth have one point from five games following a 3-1 defeat to Western United in Unite Round.

The one thing guaranteed in this matchup is goals. Adelaide won the last meeting 4-2 in April after wild 3-3 and 4-4 draws.

They are the newcomers and history-makers, and Auckland FC are out to preserve their flawless start to life in the Isuzu UTE A-League.

No new club had ever won four consecutive games in their debut Isuzu UTE A-League history prior to Auckland’s arrival this season. Better yet for Steve Corica’s side, they’ve done so without conceding a single goal – another league record for a new club.

The league leaders can make it five wins from five games heading into the New Zealand Derby if they can take down Newcastle Jets on home soil.

The 11th-placed Jets have showed promising signs this term but Newcastle have three points to their name through four games following their F3 Derby loss to Central Coast Mariners.

Melbourne City will be eyeing a third straight victory when they welcome Alen Stajcic’s Western Sydney Wanderers to AAMI Park on Saturday evening.

Prior to their bye in Unite Round, City won back-to-back matches and another win against the Wanderers could see Aurelio Vidmar’s men end the weekend as high as equal first, depending on results elsewhere.

The Wanderers make the trip to Melbourne after a 4-2 derby loss to Sydney FC, which left Western Sydney with one win from five games and just four points to show.

All eyes will again be on Alen Stajcic and whether he continues to start Spanish superstar Mata on the bench.

Marin Jakolis’ form and the emergence of Ariath Piol has Macarthur firmly in the mix to return to winning ways against a Roar side still searching for their first points of 2024-25.

Brisbane have lost four straight games after going down to Adelaide last time out, while they are seven matches without a win dating back to last season.

Western United finally have a win on the board. Can they now build on that with a statement against rivals Melbourne Victory?

Fuelled by two-goal hero Hiroshi Ibusuki and teenage sensation Dylan Leonard, Western celebrated an overdue win to close within four points of the top six after overpowering Perth in Sydney.

John Aloisi’s Western will be without 17-year-old star Leonard (suspension) for the showdown with Victory who suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Wellington Phoenix.

The 2023-24 Grand Finalists and 2024 Australia Cup runners-up are two points off top spot.

When these two teams met in March, Ben Garuccio scored a 90th-minute equaliser to earn a 2-2 draw for Western.
