Fresh injury concern for City star after emotional exit in A-Leagues victory

Melbourne City star and Subway Socceroo Marco Tilio was substituted out of his side’s 1-0 Isuzu UTE A-League win over Western United with an apparent hamstring injury.

Tilio fell to the ground holding his left hamstring after a driving run through midfield in the first half of the Monday night fixture at AAMI Park, and was replaced by teenage debutant Medin Memeti in the City XI with just 40 minutes on the clock.

Tilio, who is back at City on loan from Scottish champions Celtic this season, also joined the club on loan from the Glasgow giants in 2023-24 but a hamstring tendon injury suffered in February resulted in the Socceroo missing more than two months of football.

A quad injury then ruled Tilio out contention for the Olyroos’ 2024 Under-23 Asian Cup campaign in but after a solid pre-season at City, the exciting young forward began the season brightly with a match-winning goal against Newcastle Jets in Round 1.

City persevered without Tilio to beat Western 1-0 but there was a second injury blow to come for the club; Andrew Nabbout scored the goal for City on the night but was substituted just minutes later with an apparent knee injury.
