5-star A-Leagues young gun headlines Joeys’ 19-0 win in U17 Asian Cup qualifying

The Subway Joeys showed no mercy in their opening AFC Under-17 Asian Cup qualifier, crushing Northern Mariana Islands 19-0.

Western United young gun Anthony Didulica led the way with five goals, while Brisbane Roar sensation Quinn Macnicol and Marconi’s Max Anastasio scored hat-tricks in Kuwait on Thursday (AEDT).

Adelaide United prospect Amlani Tatu, Alexander Garbowski (BK Hacken) and Perth Glory’s Max Naylor all scored twice as Sydney FC duo Nickolas Alfaro and Jay Maltz rounded out the scoring at Abdullah Al Khalifa Stadium in Mishref, where Australia are looking to qualify for next year’s tournament.

The Joeys squad features 18 Isuzu UTE A-League youngsters in their Group G campaign alongside Indonesia, hosts Kuwait and Northern Mariana Islands.

Against Northern Mariana Islands, there were eight A-Leagues prospects in the starting XI – headlined by captain Macnicol and including Central Coast Mariners goalkeeper Jai Ajanovic, 15-year-old Western United defender Besian Kutleshi, Didulica, Sydney’s Alfaro, Tatu of Adelaide, Maltz and Brisbane’s Charlie Parkin.
