A-Leagues Academy product now playing for Man Utd named among world’s best young footballers

Former Perth Glory youngster James Overy has been recognised as one of the best wonderkids in world football.

Glory Academy product Overy, who is now playing for Premier League juggernaut Manchester United in their youth team, has been named among the Guardian’s Next Generation 2024 – a prestigious annual list of 60 of the best young talents in world football.

Overy is on a list of the most talented players born in 2007 headlined by Barcelona and Spain star Lamine Yamal, and includes the likes of teammate and Danish talent Chido Obi-Martin, Barcelona’s Marc Bernal and Crvena Zvezda sensation Andrija Maksimovic.

The 17-year-old Australian teenager completed his long-awaited move to United’s Under-18 side last month.

Overy caught the eye following his performance for Perth in a friendly against Premier League outfit West Ham in July 2023.
