Adelaide United have signed 20-year-old Englishwoman Abby Clarke from Burnley FC Women on a one-year contract for the 2024-25 Ninja A-League season.
Clarke’s footballing journey began at Everton at the age of nine and after 10 years at the club, signed her first professional contract for the Toffees in 2023.
After a decade at Everton, Clarke joined Burnley in February 2024 on a free transfer and as a self-described Burnley fan, it was a dream move for the 20-year-old.

But now, having spent 11 years – more than half of her life – in English football, Clarke has elected to head to Adelaide and join United ahead of the 2024-25 Ninja A-League campaign.
“I am absolutely delighted to be joining Adelaide,” Clarke said.
“Adelaide stood out to me massively with the persistent opportunity they give to young players to compete and perform at the highest level.”
“I’ve heard so many great things about the club. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity. I can’t wait to continue my development here and contribute to future success. I am hungry to develop as a player and person.”
Clark joins Matilda McNamara, Tiarna Karambasis, Erin Healy and Fiona Worts as the fifth new arrival of the off-season.
Adelaide head of football Marius Zanin says Clark has both the temperament and character to make an impact at the club.
“Abby’s experience in England’s top leagues will be a vital addition to our team. At just 20 years old, she’s already shown she has the temperament and character to perform at a high level,” Zanin said.
“Her age is a perfect fit for our club as we continue to give young players the platform to perform and develop. We’re thrilled to have Abby on board and look forward to seeing her growth with us.”
