Canberra United add key piece to the puzzle as ‘dynamic’ midfielder returns

Canberra United have signed midfielder Bethany Gordon ahead of the upcoming Ninja A-League season.

Gordon returns to the nation’s capital from Western Sydney Wanderers having made two appearances for Canberra during the 2017-18 season.

After initially leaving Canberra, Gordon then went on to make 11 league appearances for Newcastle Jets and 25 matches for Western Sydney and arrives back at the club with plenty more A-Leagues experience under her belt.

“We are pleased to be able to add Bethany to the squad for the new season and welcome her back to Canberra United,” said Canberra head coach Antoni Jagarinec.

“Bethany is a dynamic midfield player, with a vast range of passing, and brings her A-League experience to our squad. I am looking forward to working with her for the upcoming season.”

Gordon will be looking to make up for lost time this coming season having missed a large chunk of the 2023-24 campaign due to injury and subsequently left the Wanderers at the end of her contract.

“I am looking forward to returning to Canberra for a second stint in the Ninja A-League and to working with Antoni (Jagarinec) and the coaching staff,” said the 26-year-old.

“As the club that gave me my professional debut, I feel a sense of connection that I can build on with this group.

She added: “I fondly recall the magnificent support the team gets from the loyal supporters and can’t wait to return to the atmosphere of McKellar Park.”

Gordon becomes the club’s sixth signing of the off-season following the arrivals of Sally James, Elizabeth Anton, Aideen Keane, Jynaya Dos Santos and Darcey Malone.
