Newcastle Jets sign Brazilian forward: ‘A different point of view in attack’

Newcastle Jets have announced the signing of Brazilian forward Wellissol for the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

Wellissol moves to Newcastle on a one-year deal from second-tier Brusque FC in his native Brazil.

The 26-year-old has spent the majority of his career in Brazil, though the former Internacional youngster has experience abroad with Eschen/Mauren in Switzerland.

“I’m very happy to be here in Newcastle,” Wellissol said.

“I want to show our fans what I can do as a player and excite them.

“I have come here to help the team win and I can’t wait to play in front of the fans for the first time which will be in Round 1.”

Wellissol is the latest new face at the Jets, who are preparing for their Round 1 opener at home to Melbourne City on October 19.

He joins Oscar Fryer, Aleksandar Šušnjar, Eli Adams, Matthew Scarcella (on loan from Sydney FC), Lachlan Rose and Ben Gibson in Newcastle, while Ben van Dorssen, Alex Nunes, Zac Bowling and Will Dobson have signed scholarship deals.
