Matilda’s twin joins sister at Brisbane Roar: ‘A dream come true’

Brisbane Roar have signed midfielder Laini Freier from NPLW QLD side Brisbane City ahead of the 2024-25 A-League Women campaign.

The 23-year-old is the twin sister of current Brisbane Roar star and recent CommBank Matildas debutant Sharn Freier; the sisters will play alongside one another in the Roar squad in what will be Laini Freier’s debut A-League Women season.

Freier joins Brisbane after securing the NPLW QLD Premiership/Championship double with Brisbane City in 2024, scoring seven times throughout the campaign including goals in both the Semi-Final and Grand Final – both assisted by sister Sharn.

Sidelined through 2022 by an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, Freier’s surge to the top flight with Brisbane Roar is an inspiring story that will go to even greater heights alongside her sister in 2024-25.

“I’m very excited to be playing my first A league season with Roar this year. It’s going to be a new challenge for me so I’m grateful for the opportunity,” Freier said.

“Sharn and I have played together since we were little, so I’m stoked to be able to play with her here at Roar. It’s a dream come true.”

Freier joins Danelle Tan, Zara KrugerEvdokia Popadinova, Emily Pringle, Tanaye MorrisIsabela Hoyos (scholarship contract) and Momo Hayashi as Brisbane’s eighth new signing this off-season.
