Roar on tour! Brisbane head to India for pre-season tournament

Brisbane Roar are set to continue their preparations for the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League season with a pre-season tour trip to India, beginning this week.

Brisbane’s men’s squad will take part in the second edition of the Bhausaheb Bandodkar Memorial Trophy between August 24 and September 6 in Fatorda, Goa.

The tournament will feature six teams from India, and two invitees: Brisbane Roar, and Argentine Primera Division club Defensa y Justicia.

The A-Leagues club have been placed in Group A of the eight-team tournament, and will face FC Goa, Dempo SC and a qualifier from the Goa Professional League. On the other side of the draw sit Defensa y Justicia along with three Indian clubs: Odisha FC, Chennaiyin FC and Churchill Brothers.

The top-two teams from each group will progress directly to the semi-finals, and the winners of the two final-four games will progress to face off in the final of the tournament.

DEEP DIVE: 13-year vision behind A-Leagues side’s transfer explosion Europe is ‘taking seriously’

Roar head coach Ruben Zadkovich has assembled a travelling squad of 25 players for the tour of India.

Brisbane chief operations officer Zac Anderson says the tournament will provide the club’s Isuzu UTE A-League squad with many benefits on the road to the 2024-25 domestic season.

“Brisbane Roar is delighted to be invited to compete in the Bhausaheb Bandodkar Memorial Trophy, this tournament is a great opportunity for our players and staff to get away together and break up a long pre-season.” Anderson said.

“The players and staff have been working extremely hard to build the foundations for the season and this tournament provides important competitive match minutes for the group to continue evolving ahead of the upcoming A-League season.

“Our focus has been to build a high performing environment with a group that is close knit working together to help each other achieve our goals for the season.”
