Melbourne City have signed Spanish goalkeeper Malena Mieres for the 2024-25 Liberty A-League season.
Mieres arrives in Melbourne on a one-year deal having spent the past four seasons in Spain’s top flight with Eibar and Real Betis.
Known for her “exceptional shot-stopping and proficiency with her feet”, the 24-year-old Spain youth international fills the void left by Lysianne Proulx (Bay FC) and Barbara (end of contract) at the reigning premiers.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Malena to Melbourne City. A talented shot-stopper, Malena’s distribution is also key, making her an ideal fit for our style of play,” said City’s director of football Michael Petrillo.
“With the AFC Women’s Champions League commencing in October, Malena brings a wealth of
experience after spending the past four seasons in Spain’s top division.”

Mieres is the second international to join City, after Venezuelan striker Mariana Speckmaier swapped Wellington Phoenix for Melbourne.
She was called up to Spain’s Under-23 squad for friendlies against England and Norway earlier this year.
“I’m really excited to be joining Melbourne City and I can’t wait to move to Australia and meet
my new teammates,” Mieres said.
“I’ve heard great things about the Club and the A-League, so I’m looking forward to what is a
fantastic new challenge for me.
“City are an ambitious club, and I’ll be doing everything I can to help the team defend their
league title.”
