Experienced shot-stopper becomes Victory’s fourth signing of Kisnorbo era

Melbourne Victory have bolstered their goalkeeping stocks ahead of the new Isuzu UTE A-League campaign, signing shot-stopper Jack Duncan on a one-year deal.

Part of the Wellington Phoenix squad which reached last season’s Semi-Finals, Duncan will now provide competition for current Victory number one Paul Izzo ahead of the upcoming campaign.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Melbourne Victory,” said Duncan after putting pen-to-paper on his new deal.

“Victory is always a club that wants to be competing for silverware and I’m looking forward to helping the team and the club achieve this.

“I’m looking forward to working with Patrick and the coaching staff to get the best out of me this season and I’m excited for the challenge ahead.”

With over 100 A-League appearances under his belt, the 31-year-old now becomes the fourth signing of the Patrick Kisnorbo era following the arrivals of defender Josh Rawlins and attackers Reno Piscopo and Jing Reec.

Former Melbourne City and Troyes boss Kisnorbo is the new head coach after Tony Popovic’s departure.

“We’re pleased to welcome Jack to the squad for the upcoming season,” said Kisnorbo upon completion of the deal. “Jack is a well established goalkeeper in the league who’s attitude and character will compliment our squad.

“We want Jack to be competing for the number one jersey and we believe he has the attributes to be able to push the goalkeepers in our first team to achieve this.”

Duncan will link-up with his new side when they return to pre-season training on Wednesday 10 July and could make his Victory debut when they face Northern NSW side Lambton Jaffas in the Australia Cup Round of 32 on August 6.
