Sydney FC have moved to fill the gap left by the departing Charlotte McLean, re-signing central defender Jordan Thompson ahead of the 2024-25 Liberty A-League season.
The American has been rewarded with a new one-year deal following her impressive performances during the 2023-24 campaign which saw Sydney FC finish the season with the best defence in the competition and, ultimately, crowned Liberty A-League Champions.

Initially brought in as an injury replacement for captain Natalie Tobin following her season-ending ACL injury sustained in Round One, Thompson went on to form a crucial partnership with Charlotte McLean at the heart of the defence.
However with McLean now departed, Thompson will finally get the chance to pair-up with club legend Tobin as she makes her return from injury in season 2024-25.
“I’m so excited and grateful to be re-signing with Sydney for the upcoming season,” said the 25-year-old after putting pen-to-paper on her new deal.
“I had the opportunity to be part of such a special team, club and atmosphere last season, and to get the chance to come back and play another season here is a dream come true.
“I can’t wait for the upcoming season and to compete for a Premiership and another Championship.”
Having recently signed a new deal himself, head coach Ante Juric expressed his delight at seeing another member of last season’s Championship winning roster sign on for their impending title defence.
“Jordan is a fantastic defender and I’m extremely happy to have her back for us next season,” said Juric of the American centre half.
“She has been excellent for us on and off the field, and she is a great character and leader which will be important next season.
He added: “I’m looking forward to her building a great partnership with Natalie (Tobin) when she returns after a full pre-season.”
The Sky Blues are in the process of rebuilding their side following the departures of key duo Cortnee Vine and Charlotte McLean, both of whom joined NWSL side North Carolina Courage.
