In-demand star & Wanderers sensation among A-Leagues talents called up for Young Socceroos camp

Isuzu UTE A-League prospects make up the entire extended 28-player Young Socceroos squad for a domestic training camp this month, headlined by Brisbane Roar star Thomas Waddingham.

Australian-based players not involved in the Isuzu UTE A-League Finals Series will descend on Western Sydney for a three-day camp at the Blacktown Exercise, Sports and Technology Hub, where they will have the chance to impress ahead of June’s tour of South America.

The Subway Young Socceroos are also set to compete in the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U-19 Youth Championship in July before September’s AFC Under-20 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Waddingham, who has been linked with Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham and German giants Bayern Munich after sharing Brisbane’s Golden Boot in 2023-24, headlines Trevor Morgan’s squad.

Western Sydney Wanderers attacker Marcus Younis has also been rewarded after scoring his first A-Leagues goal this season, having starred at NPL level in 2024, while Max Caputo is also in the squad on the back of keeping Jamie Maclaren out of Melbourne City’s starting XI for much of the second half of the campaign.

Also involved is one of Melbourne City’s most highly rated youngsters Arion Sulemani, who only recently returned from a serious knee injury via the club’s NPL side in VPL1.

As is “rare” talent Tiago Quintal after he recently signed his first professional deal with Sydney FC.

“This is the beginning of a busy schedule of activity and it’s important we lay the groundwork now on some key elements of our program,” Morgan said.

“Players selected will get the opportunity to show what they can bring to the squad in a competitive, internal match which will be valuable in building connections on the pitch.

“We identified this period at the end of the domestic season as the best opportunity to assemble players from this age group currently plying their trade in the A-League Men. We’ve seen many of these boys begin to get regular minutes in senior football and it’s exciting to see them continue to develop – their involvement in the national team pathway is an extension of that.

“There are also several eligible players in European leagues, so we’re really pleased with the depth of players we have available in this cycle.

“This age group had some great performances in Europe last year as we looked to build their confidence and international experience, now begins an exciting period for the Young Socceroos.”
