Transfer news: Mariners sign ex-Wanderers defender

The Central Coast Mariners have today bolstered their defensive stocks with the addition of Jonathan Aspropotamitis for the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season.

The 21-year-old joins the Yellow and Navy on a one-year-deal after earlier parting ways with Western Sydney Wanderers.

Touted as one of the country’s most promising up and coming central defenders, Aspropotamitis earned his A-League debut under Tony Popovic in 2015.

He has since gone on to make a total of 43 appearances in the A-League.

“I’m really thrilled to be joining the Mariners, and really excited by Mike’s ambition and what he’s bringing to the club” Aspropotamitis said. “I’m looking forward to getting started with the boys and working with the new playing group.”

“When I first met with Mike, I was really inspired by his vision for the club and where he wants the club to be. That persuaded me to move up to the Mariners, and I simply can’t wait to get going.”

Aspropotamitis joins Matt Simon, Corey Gameiro and Jack Clisby as new additions to the Mariners squad for next season.
