After a dream move to Europe for Belgian giant Club Brugge, youngster Riley McGree is back in the Hyundai A-League and already showing off his undoubted talent
The 19-year-old midfielder is on loan to the Newcastle Jets until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season and has made an immediate impact.
McGree scored the match-sealer in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Melbourne Victory.
And his spectacular rise through the ranks could be considered an inspiration for the other teen sensations in the Hyundai A-League.
After making two appearances and scoring three goals for the Australian under-17 team in 2013, McGree was signed to Adelaide United’s youth squad the following year and went on to make a total of 27 appearances.
He made his senior Hyundai A-League debut with the Reds under Gui Amor in 2016 and become a consistent member of the first-team that season.
His remarkable form led to his selection in the 23-man Caltex Socceroos squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Iraq and the UAE in March last year.
He is also a key member of the Australian under-23’s squad, and scored his first goal in a qualifier for the AFC U-23 Championship last July.
McGree already boasts an 84% pass accuracy rate with the Jets and his speed, skill and impressive midfield displays make him a valuable member of Ernie Merrick’s squad on the run to the Finals Series.
