The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Contini and Alan Davidson – convened on Thursday, 11 January 2018 to consider an incident involving Rhys Williams (Williams) in or around the 45th minute of Melbourne Victory’s Hyundai A-League Round 15 Match against Wellington Phoenix on Wednesday, 10 January 2018.
The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Williams was issued with a direct Red Card by the Referee.
The MRP determined that Williams had committed the offence of “Denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, as prescribed by Law 12 of the Laws of the Game.”
The MRP confirmed that Williams will serve a suspension of one (1) match, being the minimum sanction for the offence.
