Sydney FC defender Alex Wilkinson expects improvement from the champions’ in-form front four in a scary thought for the rest of the Hyundai A-League.
Top scorer Bobo and midfield maestro Adrian Mierzejewski both continued their outstanding form in front of goal in a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Brisbane Roar on Monday night.
Milos Ninkovic and Alex Brosque were also influential at Suncorp Stadium and Wilkinson, who hailed the “astute signing” of Mierzejewski, believes there is more to come from the free-scoring quartet.
“I get the best seat in the house every week to watch them do their thing,” Wilkinson told Fox Sports.
“They’re only going to get better and better. Adrian had a little bit of an injury, as did Ninko.
“Once they get a bit more match fitness under their belt and Adrian gets a bit more used to the runs that Bobo, Brosquey and Ninko make, they’re going to be very hard to stop.”
The Sky Blues’ latest win saw them eclipse their own record for the most points after 15 games of a campaign.
Wilkinson attributes the remarkable consistency to Graham Arnold’s emphasis on competition for places.
“The drive within the dressing room is really good. If anyone takes their foot of the pedal there is someone who is going to step in and take their spot in the starting eleven,” he said.
“Arnie has done a great job of creating a lot of depth in the squad and that’s what pushes it.”
