Hyundai A-League Team of the Week: Round 14

Who caught the eye in Round 14? Here’s our team of the week. Did we get it right?

KEEPER

Vedran Janjetovic (Wanderers)

Was in imperious form in Brisbane. Kept a clean sheet in the win. Not a lot to do but was excellent when needed including a super-stop in the second half from Gameiro’s rasping strike.

Vedran Janjetovic

DEFENCE

Nikolai Topor-Stanley (Jets)

His best game for the Jets this season. Immense at back in the absence of Boogaard. Fantastic performance in the 2-2 draw with Sydney FC.

Lachlan Jackson (Jets)

Deputised for Boogaard and produced a number of desperate blocks to deny a lethal Sydney attack. An excellent display against the might of the Sky Blues in Sydney.

Antony Golec (Mariners)

The 27-year-old made a couple of key defensive clearances –  including one in the first half to deny Berisha – in the 1-1 draw in Geelong. Overall, he was very solid as the visitors earned a point on the road.

Mark Milligan (Victory)

Showed his great versatility again with a composed display alongside new signing Dino Djulbic in the heart of the defence in their 1-1 against Mariners in Geelong.

MIDFIELD

Isaias (Reds)

Blocked the central channels and provided his customary work-rate and tenacity in the tackle. What a leader is the Spaniard who’s in fabulous form this season.

Nikola Mileusnic (Reds)

Worked his socks off and provided an excellent assist for Adlung’s opener in Adelaide’s 3-0 win in Perth. One of the most underrated players in the league.

Milos Ninkovic (Sydney FC)

The Sky Blues’ most dangerous player, what’s more, he scored a sublime individual goal. An absolute peach that was good enough for any league in the world.

ATTACK

Leroy George (Victory)

The Dutchman was Victory’s best attacking option in Geelong. Used his pace to torment the Mariners while creating some good chances and assists for teammates.

Ross McCormack (City)

With thanks to rising star Daniel Arzani, the master finisher did what he does best, scoring twice to reinvigorate City’s finals charge in their 2-1 win over Phoenix.

Oriol Riera (Wanderers)

The Spaniard looks to be back to his best. A classy performance included a composed opening goal and he worked well alongside strike partner Santalab. Riera missed an easy chance to make it 3-0 late on, but his overall contribution was still outstanding.

MANAGER OF THE ROUND

Josep Gombau (Wanderers)

It’s hardly been smooth sailing for the Spaniard since he took over, but at Suncorp on Friday the Wanderers looked organised and committed in the 2-0 win over Roar.
