Central Coast goalkeeper Ben Kennedy insists he still has belief in the Mariners’ faltering front-line despite being held to a blank for a fourth successive match.
Paul Okon’s men struggled to create clear-cut chances as they were held to a 0-0 home draw by Wellington Phoenix on New Year’s Eve.
They are now without a goal in almost a month, although Kennedy – who made several important saves at Central Coast Stadium – is confident that will change.
“We’re working on it. I think it just takes that one or two goals to go in and the boys get confidence back,” Kennedy told Fox Sports.
“We’re working hard, we’re doing everything right, we just can’t get the ball in the net.
“But we have confidence in the boys up top to get the job done.”
Kennedy’s impressive display in the stalemate means the Mariners remain only three points shy of sixth-placed Perth Glory.
The 30-year-old gloveman took encouragement from the end of a three-game losing run.
“It was nice to get a clean sheet. Obviously we’ve conceded a few goals in the last few weeks,” he said.
“The clean sheet was positive but we didn’t get the win, which is what we wanted.
“But it gives us something to work on for [the trip to] Melbourne Victory.”
