Reds skipper says his team deserved more in loss to Jets

IsaĆas insists his Adelaide United teammates were extremely unlucky to concede a late penalty on their way to a 2-1 loss to Newcastle Jets on Saturday.

The Reds were denied a draw late on when Dimitri Petratos converted a controversial penalty when the referee adjudged the ball struck Ryan Strainā€™s arm after Petratosā€™ initial effort deflected off Ersan GĆ¼lĆ¼m.

The Spaniard felt a draw was a fair result once George Blackwood cancelled out Andrew Nabboutā€™s second-half opener at McDonald Jones Stadium.

ā€œItā€™s very hard for us,ā€ IsaĆas told Fox Sports after receiving the NAB Man of the Match.

ā€œI think we deserved a little bit more today we played a good game and we had our chances.

ā€œWe lost the game in the end so a little bit disappointed about it.ā€

IsaĆas gave an honest opinion when asked about the penalty decision.

VAR assessed the incident and the penalty was upheld, despite replays indicating the ball hit Strainā€™s chest, his arm was by his side and had little time to react as it was.

ā€œI think from my point of view it wasnā€™t a penalty,ā€ he admitted.

ā€œBut I should check the TV because I think itā€™s not a penalty from my point of view.ā€

The Reds are next in action in the Hyundai A-League on Boxing Day, as Central Coast Mariners head to Coopers Stadium.
