Reds skipper says his team deserved more in loss to Jets

IsaĆas insists his Adelaide United teammates were extremely unlucky to concede a late penalty on their way to a 2-1 loss to Newcastle Jets on Saturday.

The Reds were denied a draw late on when Dimitri Petratos converted a controversial penalty when the referee adjudged the ball struck Ryan Strain’s arm after Petratos’ initial effort deflected off Ersan Gülüm.

The Spaniard felt a draw was a fair result once George Blackwood cancelled out Andrew Nabbout’s second-half opener at McDonald Jones Stadium.

ā€œIt’s very hard for us,ā€ IsaĆas told Fox Sports after receiving the NAB Man of the Match.

ā€œI think we deserved a little bit more today we played a good game and we had our chances.

ā€œWe lost the game in the end so a little bit disappointed about it.ā€

IsaĆas gave an honest opinion when asked about the penalty decision.

VAR assessed the incident and the penalty was upheld, despite replays indicating the ball hit Strain’s chest, his arm was by his side and had little time to react as it was.

ā€œI think from my point of view it wasn’t a penalty,ā€ he admitted.

ā€œBut I should check the TV because I think it’s not a penalty from my point of view.ā€

The Reds are next in action in the Hyundai A-League on Boxing Day, as Central Coast Mariners head to Coopers Stadium.
