US players in Australia: Gilliland scores hat-trick in big Jets win

The Westfield W-League is littered with foreign talent this season but it’s the American contingent which continue to dominate the headlines.

Here’s how the U.S players fared across the league this week.

Newcastle Jets’ Arin Gilliland was the real star of Round 7, netting three first-half goals to help her side to a thumping 3-0 win over the Roar.

The 24-year-old, in her second season with the Jets, scored in the 15th, 31st and 40th minute to fire Newcastle into a share of the W-League lead.

Fellow Americans, forward Katie Stengel and goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom also played full games in the Jets’ big win.

Carson Pickett and Celeste Boureille both played 90 minutes for the Roar.

Meanwhile, Toni Pressley and Haley Kopmeyer played the full 90 minutes for Canberra United as they fell to a 2-1 loss to Melbourne City.

Melbourne City’s Ashley Hatch and Lauren Barnes both got through full games for the hosts.
