Fresh from taking a point off the defending champions, Adelaide United midfielder Danielle Colaprico is confident the Reds are ready to make a late season surge in the Westfield W-League.
The Reds drew 1-1 with Melbourne City on Sunday, with keeper Sarah Willacy saving an 89th minute penalty from Kyah Simon to preserve a fantastic result at Lakeside Stadium.
After six rounds, Adelaide is currently in seventh spot on the ladder, five points outside the top four ahead of this week’s clash against Melbourne Victory.
“It was great for us to score and come back with a point. The most important thing that we take away from that match is a point away from home,” Colaprico said.
“We’re still growing as a team and we are showing it through our capabilities, playing behind the line and even in front.
“Now, it’s about bringing it all together and we’ve played well at home and been a bit unlucky in the end in some games but it is all coming together and I think we’re heading in the right direction.”
Adelaide produced a great performance to draw with City, despite going behind in the 14th minute through Ashley’s Hatch’s header.
Alyssa Mautz ensured they would secure a point when she levelled the scores 20 minutes from time.
“The point was great for us, I think it’s hard to win on the road and I think a point is what we deserved,” Colaprico said.
“I think we played well defensively and showed that we can play at times but we’re going to have to clean some things up, and attack also.
“Melbourne City are full of great players and they have the ability to play some great football, and we knew what we were up against.”
Adelaide face Victory at Lakeside Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off at 4.30pm.
