Joyce frustrated by Melbourne City mistakes

Warren Joyce believes Melbourne City’s “horrendous” individual errors overshadowed an otherwise encouraging performance in Friday night’s 3-1 defeat away to Brisbane Roar.

An injury-hit City could have prevented all three of the hosts’ goals, with experienced pair Iacopo La Rocca and Eugene Galekovic wearing the bulk of the blame.

“La Rocca and Eugene have done great for us this year,” Joyce said after the match.

“They’ve earned us points, helped us get points, but tonight they’ve cost us. And they know that, they’re good pros.

“Everyone, every human being, can make mistakes but if you make mistakes as bad that it’s difficult to win games.

“In saying that, at 2-1, I thought we were doing enough to get back into the game. I thought we had good opportunities to score [a second] and I think if we’d gotten it back to 2-2 we would have gone on to win the game.

“I certainly thought we deserved something out of the game, performance-wise at least.”

Joyce, who revealed he didn’t have a timescale for Tim Cahill’s return to action, said his side had not been affected by speculation surrounding  the Caltex Sooceroo’s future.

“Some of the stuff I don’t even read or see and I think the players are a bit the same,” he said.

“It can’t affect affect you much if you don’t know anything about it.”
